Last week..
I had the chance to meet a passionate educator, (and lovely person!) Frank Carrizo Zirit.
Frank and I ..
often talk about DELTA on Facebook, so we decided to officially meet face to screen and have a chat.
We talked about..
my CELTA and DELTA journey, teaching pronunciation, teacher and trainer talk, native-speakerism.
3 takeaways:
- believe in yourself
- work hard
- have strong beliefs, loosely held. (I heard that when watching Jim Fuller interviewing Thom Kiddle)

I have to admit ..
I talked too much and too fast. I was getting ready for my holiday and I was kind of in a rush 😂 Sorry Frank! You were a wondeful host and I hope we can meet in person one day!
Hi Rachel, Thanks for your latest post – loved listening to you and Frank – well done. Have a relaxing holiday.
Cheers

Hi Rachel,
No, I have to disagree with you – YOU DIDN’T TALK TOO MUCH/FAST ! You and Frank discussed very important areas of the ELT industry and that required you both to talk.
In particular, I appreciated the spotlight on native speakerism, a topic I feel very passionate about. Unfortunately we still have a long way to go until this is no longer a topic.
Some time in the not-too-distant future, I hope we’ll be able to discuss what we’ve recently been doing with CELTA – I’m a part of the Flipped CELTA revolution and the good news doesn’t seem to be getting through to other CELTA centres. Our panel discussion at IATEFL 2024 was quite well attended but so much more needs to be done in this respect.
Have a terrific holiday

Your ability to set goals and achieve them is commendable, Rachel.
“Intelligibilities” – I like this. I agree with your observation that intelligibility isn’t solely the responsibility of the speaker.
The concept of “have strong beliefs, loosely held” reminded me of Prabhu’s view on a teacher’s own ‘sense of plausibility’, which is constantly evolving with experience and reflection on them. 🦚

Thanks, Girish. Totally agree with everything you’ve written. We are always on the same ELT page!
