This short conversation lesson plan is based on Graham Hill’s Ted talk “Why I’m a weekday vegetarian”. I used it with a strong B2 student who usually wants to watch videos just once and then discuss the content with me.
You can use it with upper intermediate and advanced students.
The communicative aim is to discuss the idea presented in the Ted Talk.
There are some pre-listening questions to activate interest and previous knowledge of the topic. Good listening practice.
There is a matching task- students have to match chunks from the recording with their meaning. As you might have noticed, I try to avoid single-word definitions, to encourage students to notice and learn chunks. You can use this task as a pre-teaching activity, or if you want to challenge your students, use it after listening.
There is some useful language at the end to help students improve their fluency and conversation skills.
